School and Training: Balancing Act
Christian Nino wakes up shortly after seven, eats breakfast with the family, and prepares for school. Cristiano Ronaldo Jr and his younger siblings attend the Riley School in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. Once he gets to school at 8:30, his tutors engage him with his personalized curriculum catered to the topics that he’s most passionate about.
A Unique Approach to Education
Riley’s school has a very unique way of teaching and assessing students. They give out merit badges for behaviour and good deeds. They also have a deep staff of specialist sports, arts, cultural subjects, and Singapore Math teachers. Ronaldo senior has gone on record saying he will not force his son to choose football as a career. So, it’s understandable that he would set him up in one of the best schools.
The Academy Journey
Even though he’s in the Manchester United Academy as an academy player, he has a Schoolboy contract with the club, renewable every two years until he’s 17. What is a Schoolboy contract, you ask? It’s a contract that allows him to leave school three days a week to attend additional training sessions at the Academy during school hours.
Training Routine and Nutrition
Academy players are picked up in the minibus and sent to the United training ground to continue their day. Once they arrive, he and his teammates are put through their paces in football drills and matches for two hours. After this, a tutor comes to the training ground to take them through their missed schoolwork. The whole team is fed again before their hour-long evening football session. The club is responsible for the players’ nutrition, even at the Academy level.

Structured Weekdays and Unstructured Weekends
On days when there is no training, he goes to school like a regular kid but has more intensive lessons to compensate for the shorter classes he receives on training days. On the weekends, things could be more structured. Most Academy players get to train how they want, and coaches use the time to strategize for match day. For Christian Nino, training on the weekends is much more intense but short, so he gets to spend some much-needed time with his family and indulge in his favorite pastimes.
Bonding with CR7: Training and Challenges
Who are we kidding? With a father like Ronaldo, leisure time quickly turns into a gym or football drill. They have been recorded racing each other, maxing out sit-top reps, and facing each other in Gold challenges. He is already replicating some of the footwork CR7 is known for and has been regularly seen performing his father’s famous “Siu” celebration after scoring for the Red Devils under-12s.
The Future Ballon d'Or Winner?
From the look of things, it’s only a matter of time before he becomes as quick as his old man was in his prime. Watch out, Mbappe! Christian Nino is coming. Competitive matches usually occur on Sundays, and it’s an ample opportunity for Man United players to gauge how much progress they are making versus the kids in other academies.
Grandmother's Pride
Ronaldo Jr usually starts up front. On rare occasions, his grandma gets to watch him and has even claimed in an interview that, at his age, Cristiano plays better than his father. Assuming his father stays with the club and doesn’t move away, bringing the entire family with him, Ronaldo Jr’s life is challenging. Even though his father knows it will take a lot of hard work and determination for him to begin to scale the heights his illustrious father reached for club and country.
